- BIOGRAPHY
Willem II van Hoorne was the son of Willem I van Hoorne and Heilwig von Holte. He was lord of Hoorne, of Altena (through his wife), but also of Heeze, Venloon (Loon op Zand), and part of Tilburg.
About 1270 he married Agnes van Perwez, with whom he had four sons and a daughter; only their son Gerhard I is recorded with progeny.
In 1285 Willem became patron of the churches of Heeze and Leende, and the Premonstratensian convent of Keizerbosch.
Willem took part in the Eighth Crusade, the Battle of Woeringen in 1288, and the Battle of the Golden Spurs (Battle of Kortrijk) in 1302. On 10/11 August 1304 he was killed along with his son Engelbert at the naval Battle of Zierikzee.
