- BIOGRAPHY
Mary Killigrew was born in 1627, daughter of Sir William Killigrew, Governor of Pendennis Castle, and Mary Hill, of Honilay.
Her family, favoured by the Stuarts, arranged her marriage to Frederik van Nassau, Lord of Zuylensteyn. On 18 October 1648 at 's-Gravenhage, she married Frederik, illegitmate son of Frederik Hendrik, Prince of Orange, and Margaretha Catharina Bruyns. They became the parents of two sons.
Later on she became lady-in-waiting to Princess Mary, the wife of her husband's legitimate brother, Willem II, Prince of Orange. Through her influence her husband became involved in the Buat affair but, probably because of political and dynastic reasons, remained unaffected by the scandal.
