since 1810 sovereign prince of Abkhazia
- BIOGRAPHY
In the beginning of the 1800s, Abkhazian state is subjected to overlordship of Osman-Turkey. However, Russia's influence grows and acquires much power. Abkhazian rulers need to be muslims because of the osman regime forces, but plenty of Abkhazians appreciate more the orthodox-christianity.
Abkhazia's eastern neighbour, Sa-Megrelo ('Mingrelia'), allies in 1803 with the Russian Empire, the orthodox-christian great power. Therefore Abkhazia gets surrounded by Russia's power.
Sefer Giorgi's father, Abkhazia's then ruler Kelesh Hamad, seeks relations with Russia and Russian-oriented neighbours. (This would lead to Abkhazia's break from the Osman-Turkey.)
In 1803, Kelesh's heir Aslan is otherwise tied. Whereas Kelesh acquires a bride for his second son, Giorgi-Sefer, from Russia's alliance. The young bride is the youngest sister of Sa-Megrelo's then ruler, Grigol VI. Sefer-Giorgi receives a christian wife, and they start to have progeny.
Later, this political divergence leads to rivalry and conflict between Aslan and Sefer-Giorgi. The latter is supported by Russia and his wife's relatives, such as Sa-Megrelo's rulers.
