- BIOGRAPHY
Hermenegildis was the son of Gonçalo Betotez, conde de Tui, conde de Deza, and Tresa Eris de Lugo. His sister Aragonta González had been the wife of Ordoño II, king of Asturias, León and Galicia, before being set aside.
Hermenegildis was count in the 10th century kingdom of León, and husband of Mumadona Dias, heiress of Guimaraes and Porto. He begins to appear in documentation in 926, and apparently died relatively young, as he is no longer mentioned after 943 (and was dead by 950), while his widow continues to appear until 981. His eldest son was Gonçalo Menendes de Porto, conde de Braga, who first appears in a document of 24 July 950, the same document that confirms Hermenegildis as already dead. Another son Ramiro Menéndez may have fathered Velasquita Ramirez, queen of Vermudo II 'el Gotoso', king of León. There appear to have been four other children.
