- BIOGRAPHY
Raoul IV was the son of Raoul III de Sainte-Suzanne, vicomte du Maine and probably by his wife Godehelt de Bellême. With his wife Eremburgis he had several children of whom Raoul V is recorded with progeny.
About 1010 Raoul yielded to his brother Geoffroy the land needed for construction and staffing of the priory of Solesmes. Between 1012 and 1016 he witnessed the confirmation of the priory of Tuffé to the abbey of Saint Vincent by Hugues III, comte de Maine, and he travelled to Rome to obtain the reconfirmation by Pope Benedict VIII of the foundation of Evron. Either he or his son carried the nickname of Roscelin, short for Raoul. Raoul died before 1040.
