- BIOGRAPHY
Jean II Tristan was the son of Raoul II Tristan de Maignelais and Marie de Jouey. Some sources put his year of birth as about 1395. He married a lady also called Marie de Jouey, and they had at least two daughters, both of whom would have progeny. Jeanne married Jean II de Comborn, vicomte de Comborn, and Antoinette would follow her first cousin Agnès Sorel as the mistress of Charles VII, king of France, then became the mistress of François II, duc de Bretagne, bearing him three children.
Jean succeeded his father in possession of the seigniory of Maignelais. Like his father a familiar of Charles VI, king of France, he was a commander of the garrison of Creil and fought the English with Jeanne d'Arc. In 1430 he defended the château of Gournay-sur-Aronde against a combined English and Burgundian force.
The year of Jean's death is uncertain. One source puts it as 1442, another puts it after 1462.
