Don Emanuele Ruspoli, 1.Principe di Poggio Suasa, was born on 30 December 1838 in Rome, the son of Don Bartolomeo dei Principi Ruspoli, and Carolina Ratti.
In 1859 he became a military volunteer in the Sardinian kingdom and received the Silver Medal of Military Valor.
On 10 June 1864 in Rome, Don Emanuele married Caterina Conaki, widow of Prince Nicolae Vogoride, caimacam of Voldovia, and daughter of Costache Conaki and Smaragda Negri-Donici. They became the parents of three sons and two daughters. Caterina died on 22 February 1870 in Rome.
His eldest son Costantino died unmarried aged 24. His second son Eugenio explored Somalia and Abyssinia and, on 4 December 1893 near Burgi in Somalia, was killed by an elephant. It was his third son, Mario, who succeeded him as Principe di Poggio Suasa.
On 14 June 1878 in Rome, Don Emanuele married Donna Laura Caracciolo dei Principi di Torella, daughter of Don Camillo Caracciolo dei Principi di Torella and Anna Ivanovna, countess Loginova. They became the parents of one son. Laura died of post childbirth complications on 16 January 1882 in Rome.
Don Emanuele was Deputy and Senator of the Kingdom of Italy. He was mayor of Rome from 1878 to 1880 and from 1892 to 1899. Don Emanuele was also vice-president of the Italian Alpine Club.
On 18 June 1885 in Paris, Don Emanuele married Josephine Mary Curtis, daughter of Joseph David Beers Curtis and Elizabeth Shipton Giles. They became the parents of two sons and a daughter.
Don Emanuele died on 29 November 1899 in Rome of complications of his diabetes. His widow died in 1943.
