- BIOGRAPHY
Madeleine was the daughter of Ferry de Mailly, baron de Conti, and Louise de Montmorency, who was the sister of Anne, duc de Montmorency, constable of France. Through her mother's second marriage, Madeleine was the half-sister of Gaspard II de Coligny, comte de Coligny et Châtillon sur Loing, admiral of France, among the first Huguenots murdered in the Bartholomew's Day Massacre of 1572.
Madeleine married Charles de Roye, comte de Roucy, son of Antoine de Roye, sire de Roye de Breteuil de Muret et de Busancy, and Catherine von Saarbrücken, dame de Roucy de Pierrepont et de Briquenay. Little is recorded about Charles, but his father Antoine was killed at the French victory over the Swiss at Marignano on 13 September 1515, after having 'Fait le long de la journée, merveilleusement bien son devoir' ('done his duty wonderfully well throughout the day'), wrote his brother-in-law Robert III de La Marck, grieving for the death of his friend.
Eleonore and Charlotte, daughters of Madeleine and Charles, both became passionate supporters of the Huguenot cause. Eleonore married Louis de Bourbon, 1.prince de Condé, and Charlotte married comte François III de La Rochefoucauld, prince de Marsillac.
Madeleine died in 1567.
