- BIOGRAPHY
René was the son of Baudouin de Beauvau and Jeanne de La Jaille. After 1217, in the lifetime and with the consent of his father, he married Jeanne de Preuilly, daughter of Geoffroy IV de Peuilly, sire de Preuilly, and his wife Lucie. They had a son Mathieu who would have progeny, and at least one other son.
In 1265 René accompanied Charles Etienne, comte d'Anjou, brother of King Louis IX, in his expedition to Naples. After its conquest he was named Constable, and he was mortally wounded in the victory over Manfredo of Sicily at the Battle of Benevento in 1266. He was buried in the chapel that he had built in the Church of Saint-Pierre.
