- BIOGRAPHY
Alboino I della Scala, lord of Verona, was the son of Alberto I della Scala, lord of Verona, and Verde de Salizolo. In 1298 he married Catharina Visconti, daughter of Matteo I Visconti, lord of Milan, and Bonacosta Borri. Their daughter Verde would have progeny with her first husband Rizzardo VI da Camino, lord of the march of Trevigi. Alboino became lord and imperial vicar in the city after the death of his brother Bartolomeo in 1304.
In January 1306 Alboino married Beatrice da Correggio, daughter of Giberto da Correggio, signore da Carregio, 'Defender' of Parma, and Helena Malaspina. They had at least three children of whom Mastino II would have progeny.
Alboino died on 28 October 1311. He was succeeded by his son Alberto II who ruled with and under the tutelage of Alboino's brother Cangrande I, the most celebrated of the della Scala family which ruled Verona from 1277 until 1387, now perhaps best known as the leading patron of the poet Dante Alighieri. Alboino's younger son Mastino II ruled Verona after Cangrande's death in 1329.
