- BIOGRAPHY
Alexander, known as 'the Lame', was born 26 November 1462, the son of Ludwig I, Pfalzgraf von Zweibrücken und Veldenz, and Jeanne de Croÿ. From his father's death in 1489 he was count palatine and duke of the palatinate of Zweibrücken and Veldenz. In the first year he had to share the rule with his brother Kaspar, who was later declared insane.
After his return from a war in good health Alexander promised to found a church, a promise he kept in 1489 with the construction of the Alexanderskirche in Zweibrücken.
On 21 January 1499 he married Gräfin Margarete zu Hohenlohe-Neuenstein, eldest daughter of Kraft VI, Graf von Hohenlohe-Neuenstein, and Helene von Württemberg. Of their six children their sons Ludwig II and Ruprecht would have progeny. Alexander died on 31 October 1514.
