- BIOGRAPHY
Daughter of Archibald Campbell, 4th Earl of Argyll and Lady Margaret Graham, Lady Margaret Campbell was born about 1542 at Inchamahome Abbey. Lady Margaret Campbell and Sir James Stewart of Doune married 11 January 1564 and they had seven children. James Stewart, on 24 November 1581, was created Baron Doune with remainder to his heirs male whatsoever. Lord Doune died 20 July 1590.
The eldest son of Lady Margaret Campbell, James Stewart in 1580 had married Lady Elizabeth Stewart, daughter and heir of James Stewart, Earl of Moray 'the Good Regent'. He assumed in his wife's right the Earldom of Moray and became known as 'the bonny Earl of Moray'. When her son, the Earl of Moray, was murdered by Huntly, she died shortly after 7 February 1592 from injuries caused by the fire that destroyed Donibristle Castle.
