- BIOGRAPHY
His early years were typical for someone of his background: Eton, Oxford, the Guards and the City. In the latter he joined the family firm, C. Tennant and Sons. In 1953 he spent a year in Trinidad on the family property which he later sold and with the proceeds bought in 1958 the island of Mustique in the St. Vincent Grenadines.
To his distress, in 1963 his father sold the family company. This changed his life as he went to live and work on Mustique which was then developed. When the island became successful, he sold his shareholdings and bought Jalousie and Beau, two estates in the south of St. Lucia. While there is now a luxury hotel at Jalousie, he devotes his energy to the Beau estate.
In 1956 he married Lady Anne Coke and they became the parents of five children. Lady Anne has been a Maid of Honour at the Coronation in 1953 and is now an extra Lady in Waiting to H.R.H. Princess Margaret. Since the death of his father in 1983, the Hon. Colin Tennant has become the 3rd Lord Glenconner.
