- BIOGRAPHY
Edward Charles Grenfell, 1st Baron St.Just, was born on 29 May 1870, son of Henry Riversdale Grenfell and Alethea Louisa Adeane.
He was educated at Harrow School and Trinity College, Cambridge, where he was secretary of the Pitt Club. In 1904 Grenfell became a partner in the firm of J.S. Morgan & Co., later renamed as Morgan, Grenfell & Co. to reflect his position. He was director of the Bank of England from 1905 to 1940.
On 16 August 1913 Grenfell married Florence Emily Henderson, daughter of George William Henderson. They became the parents of one son.
Grenfell was Unionist Member of Parliament for the City of London from 1922 till 1935, when he was raised to the peerage as Baron St.Just, of St.Justin Penwith in the County of Cornwall. Lord St.Just died 26 November 1941, and was succeeded in the barony by his son Peter George Grenfell.
