- BIOGRAPHY
Sir Hugh Hastings, of Elsing and Gressenhall, was born in Elsing, the son of Sir Hugh Hastings and Ann/Margaret de Everingham.
Before 1 November 1376 he married Anne le Despencer, daughter of Sir Edward le Despencer, 4th lord le Despencer, and Elizabeth de Burghersh.
A knight and owner of Fenwick and Norton in County York, and Elsing, Gressenhall and Weasenham in County Norfolk, he served in expeditions to Brittany, under the Earl of Salisbury in 1378 and John d'Arundel in 1379. Accompanying the Duke of Lancaster in his expedition to Spain, he died there on 6 November 1386. Before October 1390 his widow married Thomas Morley, 4th lord Morley. She died 30 October 1426 and was buried in Austin Friars, Norwich.
